To significantly improve runtime speed, especially given the multiple external API calls, the model implements an in-memory caching mechanism.
- All responses from external API calls (Google Maps, WeatherAPI, Electricity Map, OpenAI) are stored in a global `api_cache` dictionary.
- Before making any API request, the model first checks if the exact same request has been made previously and its response is already in the cache.
- If a cached response exists, it is immediately returned, bypassing the external API call and eliminating network latency and API usage costs for repeat queries.
- This dramatically reduces computation time for subsequent runs with similar origin/destination pairs or commodity types, bringing typical response times down to approximately 7 seconds after the initial run.
